Literacy @ Kingston
At Kingston Primary School we follow Explicit Instruction and the Science of Reading approach to teaching the skills needed for success in Reading and Writing.
We use a variety of programs to support the teachers in their instruction:
  • Letters and Sounds for Years K-3 (a synthetic phonics approach to reading and writing skills)
  • Talk 4 Writing whole school (an explicit approach to teaching children to write fiction and non-fiction)
  • Spelling Mastery for Years 4-6  (a direct instruction approach to spelling)
For children who find it challenging to learn to speak, read and write we have 3 additional intervention programs in place:
  • Speech and Language groups for Kindy and Pre-Primary students
  • MiniLit groups for Years 1 and 2
  • MacqLit groups for Years 4-6
